In 2006, a Boise school (Arrowrock International) won 1st Place at the USCF National Elementary Chess Championship Tournament. The team was coached by Daniel J. Vellotti. Congratulations!

We at Your Chess Coach are often asked, “What age should I start teaching my child to play chess?” This video clip shows that you can start as early as 2 years old. Start with naming the pieces and make sure the lessons are short and fun!

Many parents are searching for the next Bobby Fischer, the next child genius to sweep the chess field and become world chess champion. Although that would be wonderful, the important thing is that our children get a good sound fundamental education in chess. Why? Because chess gives kids an advantage in this world.

Not only will he/she develop excellent problem solving skills, but he/she will learn patience and achieve self confidence. Studies show that chess makes kids smarter!
