Posted: Chess For Kids
My husband just taught me how to play chess a few days ago, I’m not very good at it yet but I know the rules and I’m having fun. I was thinking about teaching my kids, but I’m not sure if it would be fun for them. I’m pretty sure they could understand the rules though. At what age (roughly) do you think chess could be fun for a kid?
I started teaching my son when he was 5. We also play Othello and other type of strategy games. He’s gotten really good and surpassed me when he was about 10. Best I can do is a draw now.
my two older kids played from about 5. my third is 6 and hasn’t played yet, and i’d give her another year before i tried.
i stink at chess. i know the rules but really don’t have that kind of visual mind. so it was mostly my husband who played with them since i didn’t feel i could be much of a strategy coach.

An outstanding game, once the understand the basics they will really enjoy it. If you have the patience start today I love the game and am actually going to try and play my son today.

My son loved it from about 7 to 12 or so, my 8 year old loves it now. She also seems to like checkers, I can’t stand them
