I usually start off with the "Spanish" opening
( 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 )
but what is your favorite opening move in chess that seems to work well?
This changes every 3 months, but currently:
As White, I go for a Ruy Lopez like you do, hoping for an early run on trading.
As Black, I Center Counter and hope to gambit.
Also give me a url to all of the checkmates known…
(eg: Arabian Mate)
Knight
heres a url to some named checkmates in cluding Arabian Mate http://chess.about.com/library/weekly/aa03e24.htm
In this video, the second of a two-part series, we will examine the Marshall Defense in the Queen’s Gambit Declined. 1.d4 d5 2.c4 Nf6 3.cxd5 Nxd5 and now the previous video saw 4.e4, which is the right idea but 4… Nf6 5.Nc3 e5! gives Black a decent game. The more approved move is 4.Nf3, controlling e5 and preparing e4. We will look at 4.Nf3 e6, 4.Nf3 Bg4, and 4.Nf3 Bf5. These lines all appear to lead to a White advantage.
In summary, the Marshall Defense is not seen among strong players today because it allows White to take control of the center at very little cost.

well i usually start out by moving the pawns infront of my queen and king up two then, i move my knights infront of my rooks and move my rooks out to the middle beside my pawns. from there its easy to get to the king without running into blocks and traps…very good defense too because every piece covers another piece
Today we break down the King’s Gambit and discuss different things to keep in mind as you play this opening. Be sure to check out www.thechesswebsite.com for more discussion on this and other openings.

This is a trap in the Torre Attack (1.d4 2.Nf3 3.Bg5). It is one of my favorite opening traps; in the 2000 Chicago Open I won two games with it.

If you want to learn to play chess openings then there are many good chess books available on the market or in your local library. The links that I’ve provided in this answer can also help you further to study opening moves.
In time you’ll learn which openings suits you best. In my case I love to open with d2-d4 or e2-e4. In the first case that is in most often answered by the black player with d7-d5 and in the second case with e7-e5. The idea is then to bring your knight(s) in play, followed by your bishop(s). In all cases you must make sure that your king is safe. You bring him in safety by castling, which consists of moving the king two squares towards a rook, then moving the rook onto the square over which the king crossed.
The Sicilian Defense is widely considered the best defense against white’s e4 opening move. Here we discuss various lines in the sicilian defense and key concepts to consider when you play the sicilian.
