Over the centuries some of the worlds greatest leaders , Generals , Admirals and Enlisted men were great chess players.. Chess teaches strategy , planning , mind control..I would say yes..
In other words, what does a chess set consist of in your mind?
A chess set includes pieces and the board. Wikipedia defines it as including set and boards and contains this quote from Grandmaster Larry Evans in his 1974 book "Evans on Chess" indicating that Evans agrees.
"Make sure the one you buy is easy on the eye, felt-based, and heavy (weighted). The men should be constructed so they don’t come apart. … The regulation board used by the U. S. Chess Federation is green and buff — never red and black. However there are several good inlaid [wood] boards on the market. … Avoid cheap equipment. Chess offers a lifetime of enjoyment for just a few dollars well spent at the outset."
The Free Dictionary also defines chess set as including pieces and a board.
Theres an opening where black looks like a really bad player, because he moves his weakest pawns first, on the far sides, but its really a strong opening. I can’t remember the name.
I think your looking for the Hippopotamus Defence. I use this sometimes if i’m playing a tough opponent as black as it does seem to offer some psychological advantages. It goes something like;
Move / White / Black
1 e4 Nh6
2 d4 g6
3 c4 f6
As referenced: "A good thing about this opening is that your opponent will think that you are an absolute beginner who hasn’t got a clue what they’re doing. This will give them a bit of a shock when they find out that you are actually a reasonably good player"
That being said, it looks like a dumb series of moves for a reason. If your oppoinent doesn’t follow the script you may have leterally backed yourself into a corner, but give it a try. Its a gamble, but its just a game, and Hippo’s are the most deadly animal in all of Africa!
okay. so i want to know what you would think if a kid at your school became famous for becoming a chess master with an official rating of 2000 and above. would you think he was a nerd and hate him? or would you accept him? i want an honest opinion. suppose the kid wasn’t really popular though. like he never did anything to anyone but people just ignore him and stuff. thanks. and also, why do kids my age not like chess?
If there was a kid like that in my school, I’d respect him, because that’s kinda cool. If people ignore him for no reason, then I’ll be his friend.
Hmm.. Kids your age (assuming you’re in high school), don’t like chess because of other things that take up their time – hanging out with friends, computers, music, things like that.
Hope this helped
How many moves can chess players foresees? Like Beginners, club player, Chess Experts, Grandmasters, World Champions. Does the Skills in chess depend greatly on the ability of foreseeing moves? And which other qualities matter to be a good chess player?
I am just a beginner and can visualize at the most 3 to 4 moves.
3 to 4 moves in correct situation is good.Knowledge,Practice and ability to recognize pattern is more important.
According to de Groot, this perception, made possible by years of practice and study, is more important than the sheer ability to anticipate moves. De Groot also showed that chess masters can memorize positions shown for a few seconds almost perfectly. The ability to memorize does not, alone, account for this skill, since masters and novices, when faced with random arrangements of chess pieces, had equivalent recall (about half a dozen positions in each case). Rather, it is the ability to recognize patterns, which are then memorized, which distinguished the skilled players from the novices. When the positions of the pieces were taken from an actual game, the masters had almost total positional recall
